On this project, most people think that a truck delivered pieces of slate and they were then hand-placed. When in fact, this in an inlaid slate deck. The concrete slab was pressure cleaned. Then 1/8 of gray color cement was laid down (to create the look of a grout line base). The pattern was laid out with duct tape, and a small rubber roller was used to press on the duct tape. Then about 3/16 of color cement was applied with acrylic mix. After two hours when the concrete had set enough to be walked on, the tape was pulled off. Each slate part of the pattern was stained. The veins were handpainted to give it a little bit of a marble effect in some areas. It was then sealed.
