Transform a Concrete Patio with New Products from Butterfield Color
At World of Concrete this year, one of the many exhibits that attracted throngs of show goers was the full-scale outdoor patio display set up by Butterfield Color, demonstrating the use of their color hardeners, stains, concrete mixes, stamps, form liners and more to build everything from concrete slabs and steps to flower boxes and fire pits.
The concrete slabs were made using Butterfield’s Perma-Cast shake-on color hardener, release agents, and stamping tools. “We used our Gilpin’s Falls Bridge Plank stamp to create the look of old wood planks. This pattern, along with the Oxford Slate texture, are all relatively new patterns for us,” says Keith Boudart of Butterfield Color.
Many vertical decorative concrete applications were on display as well, including the use of Butterfield’s cut-stone form liners to enhance the concrete porch and step faces and their Cantera polymer-modified vertical wall overlay mix to create the look of natural stone around the windows and natural wood on the flower boxes. “We even created a faux tree using the Cantera mix and our bark texture rollers,” says Boudart.
Unique patterns and texture rollers have proved to be very popular with contractors, says Boudart. “We have some new texture rollers that have been very well received, and our step form liner systems are in great demand. We also used our wall form liners to create a fire pit.”
Of course, no patio would be complete without a concrete countertop, so one of the highlights of the exhibit was a beautiful curved concrete countertop with a ribbon of decorative aggregate running through it and aluminum lettering embedded in the top. It was made using Butterfield’s Flat Out glass-fiber-reinforced countertop mix, which is designed for quick production of molded countertops, tabletops, concrete panels, and other architectural precast shapes.
One of the newest products introduced by Butterfield Color this year is Pro Pack, a premeasured admixture pack designed to be combined with nearly any standard concrete bag mix to convert it into a high-performance concrete countertop mix. “The admix pack increases strength, improves finishability and reduces set time and creates a concrete countertop mix that is highly durable,” says Boudart.
